Content
What the programme covers
Principles of remote sensing
- Observation and data acquisition systems: aerial photography, digital, airborne and satellite scanners, and multispectral and hyperspectral sensors.
- Basics of orbits, revisit frequency and pointing, spectral and spatial resolution and swath width, and the basics of spectral unmixing.
- The main space-based Earth observation programmes, stereoscopy and the production of digital elevation models.
Digital image processing
- Geometric and radiometric pre-processing and atmospheric corrections.
- Dynamic stretching, filtering, principal component analysis and spectral analysis.
- Supervised and unsupervised classification, and combining remote sensing data with external data such as elevation models and geophysics.
- 3D topography: SfM photogrammetry and lidar, and synthetic aperture radar and interferometry.
The scope of remote sensing
- Geological mapping, mining exploration, and mining and post-mining environments.
- Practical workshop.
Who for
Target audience
Engineers and technicians who wish to learn about remote sensing, and staff of government agencies and consultancies.
Method
How it is delivered
Presentations and a computer-based image processing workshop.
