What trainees will gain
- Acquire the basic geological concepts and techniques for fieldwork: describing an outcrop, identifying rocks, reading the landscape, and reading and interpreting a geological map.
- Identify the issues related to knowledge of the soil and subsurface.

What the programme covers
Theory
- Fundamentals of geology, minerals and rock types.
- Landforms and surface geology.
- Structural geology and rock deformation.
- Representing geology from one to four dimensions, and geological maps.
- Geological challenges and applications: natural hazards, and water, energy and material resources.
Practical
- Field trips to outcrops representing sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks and their deformation at different scales.
- Reading the geological history of the area from its outcrops.
