Objectives

What trainees will gain

  • Acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to understand and follow up hydrogeological studies.
  • Apply the knowledge acquired to the operation, management and protection of aquifer systems.

Content

What the programme covers

Principles of hydrogeology

  • Fundamentals of geology, aquifers and groundwater, and the water cycle.
  • Groundwater flow and piezometric maps, and the relationship between groundwater and surface water.
  • Groundwater chemistry, anthropogenic contamination and geochemical background, and transport in porous media.

Pumping tests

  • Hydrodynamic parameters of aquifers and well hydraulics.
  • Well testing and aquifer testing, and drilling and well development equipment.

Regional hydrogeology and fieldwork

  • Hydrogeological problems and challenges in the study area, and a visit to a drilling site subject to availability.

Exploration, management and protection

  • Introduction to hydrogeological modelling, protection of drinking water abstraction points and recharge areas, and the data and knowledge used in hydrogeology.

Who for

Target audience

Engineers, managers and technicians at consultancies, companies and public authorities.
