Objectives

What trainees will gain

  • Read and manage data: surveys, point measurements, raster images and lines.
  • Display data as 1D logs, 2D plots and cross-sections, and 3D volumes.
  • Interpolate data for mapping purposes.
  • Use the core functions to build geological models.

Content

What the programme covers

Introduction

  • 3D geological modelling concepts.
  • Principles of the main modelling methods: explicit and implicit, grid-based and object-based methods.
  • The main steps in building a geological model.

Data

  • Data types and how they are used in geological modelling.
  • Data management in GIS and geological software.

Database management

  • Supported data types.
  • Linking borehole data with digital elevation model data.
  • Plotting logs, maps and cross-sections.

Who for

Target audience

Engineers, technicians and soil and subsurface data managers at national and regional authorities, companies and consultancies.

Method

How it is delivered

Intensive hands-on software training using participants' own data or training datasets.

A programme tailored to your organisation
