Geosciences
Introduction to 3D Geological Modelling of the Subsurface
After the general fundamentals of 3D modelling, more than eighty per cent of the time is devoted to building models in different geological settings.
Overview
About the programme
After the general fundamentals of 3D modelling, more than eighty per cent of the time is devoted to building models in different geological settings.
Duration
3 days
Training hours
21 hours
Delivery
Training hall · Virtual · At your premises
Language
Arabic or English
Objectives
What trainees will gain
- Learn the general principles of 3D geological modelling.
- Apply the method for building geological models using modelling software.
- Integrate and organise mapping, drilling and geophysical data in the software.
- Work with a 3D model, critically review it and update it.
Content
What the programme covers
Modelling methods and concepts
- The principle of the interpolation method used, with examples.
Principles of using the software
- Interactive explanation of the interpolation method, creating a project, and building the geological sequence (stratigraphic pile).
- Interactive input of the data required to model maps and cross-sections.
Running the modelling process
- Creating a model, 2D and 3D visualisation, and revising the geological interpretation.
Complex modelling
- Inputting faults and geological relationships: erosion, sedimentary onlap and intrusive sequences, inequality data and fold axes.
- A real case study, using the model as a tool for 3D mapping, and what geophysical data adds to multidisciplinary interpretation.
Who for
Target audience
Geologists, engineers and technicians who build geological models or apply modelling techniques.
Method
How it is delivered
Hands-on software work for most of the time.
A programme tailored to your organisation
The duration and topics of the programme are adjusted to the organisation's needs, and it is delivered at its site, in a training hall arranged by the Center, or virtually.
