  • Minimise occupational and public radiation exposure by keeping doses below regulated levels.
  • Understand the role of legislation, regulation and licensing procedures and their application to XRF equipment.

Content

What the programme covers

Day 1

  • Objectives and scope.
  • Radiation fundamentals and X-ray generation: atoms and elements, radioactivity, X-ray production, and dose and exposure levels.
  • Radiation protection fundamentals: exposure situations, the system of radiological protection, health effects, the quantities used, and the principles of justification, optimisation and dose limitation.
  • Overview of XRF equipment, and open discussion.

Day 2

  • Legislation, regulation and licensing: a review of the regulations, and the licensing process from application assessment through renewal, amendment and revocation.
  • Fundamentals of radiation detection and measurement.
  • XRF equipment safety: the primary beam, scattered and leakage radiation, shielding and safe operating procedures.
  • Open discussion and evaluation.
