Objectives
What trainees will gain
- Understand what can be expected from a lumped rainfall–runoff or rainfall–groundwater level hydrological model.
- Learn how to implement these models.
Content
What the programme covers
Principles of lumped hydrological modelling
- Rainfall–runoff, rainfall–level and rainfall–runoff–level modelling, and limits of application.
- The water cycle and the reservoir-model analogy, model schematics and options, and reservoir configurations.
- Data sources: hydroclimatic, hydrometric and water level data.
Practical implementation
- Critical analysis and preparation of data, modelling, checking results, precautions and good-practice guidelines.
Heterogeneous catchments and forecasting
- Principles of the nested sub-catchment model, defining its network and configurations, and applying it to practical cases.
- Forecasting: principles, assumptions, expected results and application to cases.
Who for
Target audience
Engineers responsible for preparing water balances, analysing drought or flood risk, and estimating water resources.
Method
How it is delivered
Computer-based work on practical cases.
A programme tailored to your organisation
The duration and topics of the programme are adjusted to the organisation's needs, and it is delivered at its site, in a training hall arranged by the Center, or virtually.
