Fundamentals
- Aquifer deposits, and the physical units commonly encountered in the drilling environment.
- Definition of a well and its components, and performance criteria.
Drilling techniques
- Rotary drilling, down-the-hole hammer, micro-drilling and other methods.
- Well equipment: casing, screens, cementing and gravel pack, and installation and sizing methods.
- Well development: cleaning and completion, and the pumping test — its importance and execution.
- Logs: their role in water wells, and in abstraction, maintenance, rehabilitation and decommissioning.
Structuring the drilling project
- Project management, the roles of the owner and the drilling company, specifications, and financial aspects.
- Regulatory, normative and legal considerations: administrative steps and contractual issues.
- A full practical exercise: designing a drilling project.
