Groundwater Quality: Monitoring and Diagnosis
Assessing the quality of groundwater analyses, interpreting results in light of contaminant behaviour, and using the available treatment tools to diagnose contamination.
Overview
About the programme
Assessing the quality of groundwater analyses, interpreting results in light of contaminant behaviour, and using the available treatment tools to diagnose contamination.
Duration
3.5 days
Training hours
25 hours
Delivery
Training hall · Virtual · At your premises
Language
Arabic or English
Objectives
What trainees will gain
- Assess the quality of groundwater analyses and samples.
- Interpret quality analysis results, taking into account the various contaminant processes and their behaviour in the environment.
- Understand the use of data processing tools: hydrogeochemical diagrams, isotopes, environmental statistics and GIS.
Content
What the programme covers
Monitoring and sampling
- Water monitoring at different scales, sampling, and analytical methods for determining contaminants.
- Analytical uncertainty, accredited laboratories and databases.
Water chemistry and contamination
- Anthropogenic and natural contamination.
Practical tools for interpretation
- Analysing laboratory reports and critically reviewing analytical data.
- Hydrogeochemical diagrams: binary, Piper, Schoeller and others.
- Environmental isotopes and water dating tools, statistical methods such as trend calculation and variograms, and GIS in the water sector.
Case studies
- Group work on case studies using the tools presented, and computer simulation.
Who for
Target audience
Engineers and technicians at public authorities, water utilities, consultancies and laboratories.
Method
How it is delivered
Presentations, group work on cases and computer exercises.
A programme tailored to your organisation
