Objectives
What trainees will gain
- Identify the mechanisms underlying geological and hydroclimatic natural phenomena in order to assess and prevent this type of risk.
- Understand compensation schemes for natural disasters and identify ways to manage these risks.
Content
What the programme covers
Phenomena
- Definitions, and geological phenomena: landslides, mudflows, clay shrinkage and swelling, earthquakes and coastal erosion.
- Hydroclimatic phenomena: marine flooding and groundwater flooding.
Hazard and risk assessment
- Inventorying and characterising events: available data and the limitations of methods.
- Assessing and mapping hazards at different scales and defining hazard levels, characterising exposed elements and the likelihood of occurrence, risk assessment, and available databases.
Natural risk prevention
- Information and training, regulatory tools for development and planning, and prevention measures and policy.
Natural disaster compensation schemes
- Principles and mechanisms, and their local application.
Who for
